My role was to take OPC Foundation to the next level.  The OPC Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing secure reliable information integration and interoperability for moving date/information from the factory floor to the enterprise with stops in between.  My responsibilities are both leading the team from a technical and market perspective.  It’s the most fun I’ve had in years.  My responsibility is to be the marketing and technical visionary to really develop successful adopted standards from an international perspective that achieve multivendor multiplatform secure reliable interoperability from the embedded world to the enterprise.  My vision is all about partnership and collaboration in working with end-users, suppliers and many standard development organizations.   I have been on the OPC foundation Board of Directors since July 2005, and I served as the chairman of the board for eight years.


I was the founder and visionary of OPC and actually created the first OPC data access standard.   I actively participated in the development and marketing of all of the OPC standards,  making OPC a de facto standard and also taking the new OPC UA architecture and creating as an IEC standard.

The OPC foundation is the owner and maintainer of all of the OPC specifications and I have been fully employed for the OPC Foundation since 2005 driving the initiative of true multivendor multiplatform secure reliable information integration interoperability from the embedded world to the cloud

I was a senior software architect when I officially left Rockwell Automation.  I was one of the principals in the creation of the OPC Foundation, and was sponsored by Rockwell when the OPC Foundation was created, and through the initial ten years of the OPC Foundation.  Rockwell is a significant player and is on the Board of Directors for the OPC Foundation.  I decided to formally leave Rockwell to advance the cause of the OPC Foundation in a full-time capacity in the role of Executive Director.  During my 10 years as the OPC Foundation Pres. while working for Rockwell Automation, I was involved in advance software development projects responsible for marketing / technical architecture and project management.  I was also the liaison for Rockwell Automation to the OPC Foundation. Responsibility for global customer sales marketing and support.  Responsible for corporate software development architecture to facilitate complete Rockwell Automation solutions with multivendor interoperability.  Software architecture and development for advanced data acquisition systems, human machine interface software, MES level software, enterprise interface software and comprehensive database and analysis industry software solutions.

Responsible for development of hardware and software product and solutions that span the entire Rockwell Automation portfolio inclusive of data acquisition systems, visualizations software, database logging packages, historical data access logging and visualization, MES level software interfaces.  Responsible for corporate architecture and driving a vision of technology throughout the company.  Numerous standardization programs inside of the company to achieve product integration and interoperability.   Participated in many standards initiatives during my career working with standard development organizations and suppliers and end-users.

Architecture, development, project management and testing of hardware and software for multi-tier visualization system with complete data acquisition subsystem.  Responsible for hiring and developing a team of engineers to develop and support industrialized computer systems for Allen Bradley.

Software Developer and Architect
NCR

July 1979-May 1984

I was a software developer for NCR for almost 5 years. We were developing transaction processing software that essentially was the front end to financial terminals. We also developed our own programming language that basically was a superset of Pascal called NCRL.  Projects included IRX TranPro and some maintenance on IMOS TranPro.  We also developed our own programming language that basically was a superset of Pascal called NCRL.  It was my first opportunity to work in a close team environment.  It also gave me the opportunity to travel to many customer sites during troubleshooting and installation as part of a software development project
